IDOT Crews to Close Quincy Memorial Bridge Today

QUINCY – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will close Eastbound U.S. 24 across the Memorial Bridge in Quincy this morning, after the morning rush hour, due to forecasted rising river levels. Traffic will be rerouted to the Bayview Bridge in Quincy.

Severe storms throughout Illinois caused flooding in communities along the Mississippi River and forced the closure of several roads and bridges in impacted areas. IDOT crews will continue to closely monitor the situation and close flooded routes as necessary to ensure the safety of the motoring public.

IDOT officials warn motorists that driving into flooded areas can be dangerous and suggest the following safety tips:

  • Do not drive through flooded areas
  • If a road covered by water seems shallow enough to cross, do not attempt to do so
  • If your car stalls, do not attempt to push it out; seek higher ground
