The mission of the Division of Aeronautics is to regulate and supervise all aeronautical activity within the state. The division provides safe, efficient and reliable air transportation for Constitutional Officers, IDOT employees, and other agencies of state government. The Division of Aeronautics is responsible for coordinating and implementing programs concerning air safety, airport construction, and other aeronautical related areas in Illinois. The primary role of the division is to provide modal integrity to air transportation missions, objectives and activities within IDOT.
AERO is structurally organized into four bureaus: (1) Bureau of Administrative Services, (2) Bureau of Air Operations, (3) Bureau of Airport Engineering, and (4) Bureau of Aviation Safety. AERO regulates and supervises all aeronautical activity within the state. Empowered by the Illinois Aeronautics Act, AERO encourages, fosters and assists in the development and safety of aeronautics throughout the state, and encourages the establishment and preservation of airports and other air navigation facilities. AERO provides safe, efficient, and reliable air transportation for Illinois constitutional officers and employees of IDOT and other agencies of state government. AERO also coordinates and implements programs concerning air safety, airport construction, and other aeronautical activities across Illinois.
