Gov. Pritzker waives overweight permit fees for transportation of emergency relief supplies

SPRINGFIELD – Gov. JB Pritzker has signed an emergency declaration, effective through April 12, enabling haulers to get free Illinois Department of Transportation overweight trucking permits for the movement of emergency relief supplies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public meeting on next phase of Jane Byrne Interchange project

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation will host a public meeting March 18 at the University of Illinois at Chicago to share updates on the status of the Jane Byrne Interchange project. Work will begin later this spring that will lead to closures of Jackson Boulevard and Adams Street as well as multiple expressway ramps later this construction season.

Public meeting for I-55 at Illinois 59 Access Study

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting March 12 in Joliet to share details on a series of proposed improvements to improve connections between the Interstate 55 and Illinois 59 corridors in Will County. Called the I-55 at Illinois 59 Access Study, the project is made possible by Gov. JB Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois capital program and will improve connections and safety, while reducing congestion in a high-growth area.

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that its Office of Planning and Programming is accepting applications for a competitive grant program that aims to expand long-range planning, asset management strategies and other mobility solutions throughout the state. COLLINSVILLE – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the first phase of repairs to a crumbling section of Interstate 255, one of the initial projects under Gov. JB Pritzker’s bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital plan, will begin Feb. 1, resulting in a full closure between Interstate 55/70 and Interstate 64 for approximately five months.

Rounds of rain, sleet, snow hitting Illinois, delivering major travel impact this weekend

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation is warning the public that a major storm with the potential for torrential rains, flash flooding, freezing rain, sleet and snow will impact travel tonight and this weekend throughout the state. Motorists should plan accordingly, anticipate conditions to change suddenly with roads becoming extremely slick, while allowing for much longer travel times.
