Multiple projects planned for 2021 in Metro East

COLLINSVILLE - The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that multiple projects in Metro East are currently underway or starting in 2021, highlighting a commitment to improve safety, reduce congestion and encourage economic growth throughout the region. The eight projects represent a total investment of more than $161.5 million, with more than $16.1 million coming from Gov. JB Pritzker's historic, bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital program.

Illinois 178 bridge over Illinois in Utica complete, improving access to Starved Rock, Matthiessen state parks

Two Ramps at Jane Byrne Interchange to Open

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that two reconstructed ramps will open at the Jane Byrne Interchange. Originally slated to open in October, the ramp from inbound Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290) to the outbound Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/94) will open, weather permitting, Wednesday, Sept. 2, one month ahead of schedule. The ramp from outbound Ida B. Wells Drive to the outbound Kennedy opens, weather permitting, the week of Sept. 14.

Illinois joins diversity initiative with other state DOTs

SPRINGFIELD — The member agencies of the Mid-America Association of State Transportation Agencies, the Illinois Department of Transportation included, voted today to establish a standing diversity committee. The committee will facilitate information and strategy sharing among member states on issues of diversity and inclusion. "One of my core principles is making our workforce representative of the communities IDOT serves," said Acting Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. "Transportation truly has the ability to help Illinois realize the full potential of our communities and residents. Adams Street over Kennedy to close Aug. 31

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the next major phase of the Jane Byrne Interchange project will begin with the upcoming closure of the Adams Street bridge over the Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/94). "The Adams Street bridge is the last of the eleven local street bridges at the interchange to be replaced," said Acting Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. Gov. Pritzker Activates Illinois National Guard to Help Local Communities Prepare for Potential Flooding

Springfield, IL - After consulting with local officials and experts at the National Weather Services, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is initiating sandbagging operations to assist communities along the Illinois River with flood fighting efforts. The National Weather Service is forecasting major river flooding over the next several days for portions of the Illinois River, as well as moderate to minor flooding along nine other rivers in Illinois. To supplement the local efforts, Governor JB Pritzker has activated nearly 60 Illinois National Guard soldiers for State Active Duty to assist with the state's response efforts.
