Gov. Pritzker Activates Illinois National Guard to Help Local Communities Prepare for Potential Flooding

Springfield, IL - After consulting with local officials and experts at the National Weather Services, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is initiating sandbagging operations to assist communities along the Illinois River with flood fighting efforts. The National Weather Service is forecasting major river flooding over the next several days for portions of the Illinois River, as well as moderate to minor flooding along nine other rivers in Illinois. To supplement the local efforts, Governor JB Pritzker has activated nearly 60 Illinois National Guard soldiers for State Active Duty to assist with the state's response efforts.

Eisenhower to Kennedy ramp closing June 1

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of the ongoing Jane Byrne Interchange reconstruction, the ramp from the inbound Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290) to the outbound Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/94) will close for four months starting, weather permitting, Monday, June 1.

Pritzker Administration Partnering with Local Groups to Offer Free Food for Truckers

IDOT prepared for blast of winter weather

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Transportation is warning the public that winter weather will affect much of the state this evening through Friday night, with some areas possibly receiving up to 8 inches of snow. To prepare, IDOT as usual will have its snow-and-ice teams pretreating roads and bridges as necessary, with plowing operations likely to continue into the weekend.

Murray Baker Bridge to close Sunday for major rehab

PEORIA - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the planned closure of the Murray Baker Bridge carrying Interstate 74 over the Illinois River will take place, as scheduled, at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, March 29, weather permitting. The closure is necessary to complete a $42.2 million rehabilitation of the bridge over the next seven months, a project made possible by Gov. JB Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois capital program.

Gov. Pritzker waives overweight permit fees for transportation of emergency relief supplies

SPRINGFIELD – Gov. JB Pritzker has signed an emergency declaration, effective through April 12, enabling haulers to get free Illinois Department of Transportation overweight trucking permits for the movement of emergency relief supplies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public meeting on next phase of Jane Byrne Interchange project

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation will host a public meeting March 18 at the University of Illinois at Chicago to share updates on the status of the Jane Byrne Interchange project. Work will begin later this spring that will lead to closures of Jackson Boulevard and Adams Street as well as multiple expressway ramps later this construction season.

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting March 12 in Joliet to share details on a series of proposed improvements to improve connections between the Interstate 55 and Illinois 59 corridors in Will County. Called the I-55 at Illinois 59 Access Study, the project is made possible by Gov. JB Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois capital program and will improve connections and safety, while reducing congestion in a high-growth area.

Major rehabilitation of I-255 begins Feb. 1, public urged to begin planning alternate routes

COLLINSVILLE – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the first phase of repairs to a crumbling section of Interstate 255, one of the initial projects under Gov. JB Pritzker’s bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital plan, will begin Feb. 1, resulting in a full closure between Interstate 55/70 and Interstate 64 for approximately five months.
