Building bicycle networks helps to better serve residents, businesses, and visitors by creating opportunities for a better quality of life, including economic, environmental, public health, safety and congestion-mitigation benefits. With inclusion of the Illinois Bike Transportation Plan in the Illinois Department of Transportation's Long Range Plan, IDOT will be better equipped to Transform Transportation for Tomorrow through improved policies, best practices and strategic direction for implementing a sustainable, multimodal vision for Illinois, one that includes and encourages safe bicycling.
