Mississippi River Bridge – Metro-East St. Louis

The new Mississippi River Bridge – named the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge – was built to carry Interstate 70 across the Mississippi River at St. Louis, Missouri, and is the first bridge in more than 40 years to be built connecting Illinois and Missouri at St. Louis. The existing Poplar Street Bridge has served for decades as the only urban interstate bridge between Illinois and Missouri, and is one of only two bridges in the United States to carry three interstates (I-55, I-64, and I-70). By relocating one interstate (I-70) from the Poplar Street Bridge to the new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge, drivers will experience less congestion, fewer crashes and greater fuel conservation.
