The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is conducting an engineering study and environmental analysis of US 20 in Elgin. The US 20 project study area extends from west of Randall Road to east of Shales Parkway for a distance of approximately 5.7 miles. The area around the McLean Boulevard interchange is currently being reconstructed and is not included in this study.
Please visit the U.S. 20 Study website for updates regarding project benchmarks, public information meetings or targeted briefings and email blasts. If you have a question or comment or would like further project information, you may utilize the Contact Us portion of the U.S. 20 Study site.
IDOT’s project team is currently gathering data on existing roadway and bridge conditions along US 20. Some of this data will come from you. IDOT uses a process called Context Sensitive Solutions to engage the public.
Note: IDOT projects typically have three distinct phases. Phase I (or the project Study) consists of developing the project scope, environmental studies and preliminary design of a project. Phase II (Design) consists of refining the design to develop contract plans and land acquisition. Phase III (Construction) consists of the actual construction of the project.
